Anne Kaplan

Anne Kaplan is Vice-President for Administration and University Outreach at NIU. Her division includes Information Technology Services, NIU Outreach, Northern Public Radio, and Public Affairs, all units that are actively engaged with communities across the region and the nation.

An historian by training, Anne has served NIU’s Presidents and Provosts for almost 30 years. Her responsibilities have included Executive Assistant to the President, Assistant Provost for Academic Planning and Development in the NIU Provost’s office, and participation in regional and state education planning projects from Great Lakes Naval Training Center to Rockford, the Quad Cities, and Springfield. She played a central role in the development of the three NIU Outreach centers in Hoffman Estates, Naperville, and Rockford.

Her recent service to the local community has included the Boards of Directors of Castle Bank and the DeKalb County Chapter of the American Red Cross. At the state and national levels, Anne has worked actively with the state-based programs in the humanities, the National Council on Public History, and with national continuing education associations. She has recently completed a six-year term on the board of one of the country’s growing virtual universities. She holds a B.A. in history from Carleton College and a Ph.D. in history from Washington University in St. Louis.
